This is the first time I’ve heard an account of a birding location visited by throngs of people that made me want to go there! Usually the idea of crowds is not appealing to me. But this sounds quite lovely. That black tern is amazing, I’ve never seen one so close. I didn’t know prothonotary warblers were endangered. Makes me feel even more fortunate to have two nesting pairs (that I know of) in our little park.

I know what you mean about crowds. We typically avoid them, but at Point Pelee crowds are part of the experience. Ontario is on the northern edge of the range for Prothonotary Warblers, so that contributes to them being uncommon in that region.

Magical visions of many labeled clickers hanging from birding vests of Kiah and Alessandra, click, click. Stickers, Kiahs spirit as one in them. The world could learn so much from birders and a renewal of strength and compassion in life. So much here I soaked in with excitement and admiration. Outstanding!

I absolutely LOVED 😍 ❤️ the close ups of the barn swallow!!! That young opposum didn't hurt either ❤️! Absolutely gorgeous pics and a lovely story. Both the swallow and the possum I wish I could have as "assistants" all throughout spring, summer, &fall. I'd walk the opossum infront of me for ticks and let the swallow catch insects around my face and head area. I love to watch the barn swallow build their magnificent "Adobe" nests at my local park (their offspring are quite adorable as well) and watch them feed off the insects that fly above the lake water. U can actually hear them gently touch the water every time. It's amazing how they just get close enough and don't go in the water. They are very talented hunters. 👏 2 of my favorite "ppl". Thank you for this post.

You are welcome. I took hundreds of photos of the Barn Swallows and that image is the one that most resonated with me. I love it when an image comes together like that and becomes beautiful and ineffable. There is no way to know when that will happen, you just have to be open to the possibility.

What a wonderful account of your visit to Point Pelee. The name rang a bell, so I looked through our second hand copies of Edwin Way Teale’s books and found a chapter in Autumn Across America. He and his wife, Nellie, were there in the fall, so his observations address autumnal things- like molting and the incredible amount of ‘feather-flotsam’ on the sandy shore. And he addresses the migration of butterflies through the Point. Thanks for providing so much detail and observation. And poetry and lyrics. I’d never considered that indigo girls song through a bird lens. Thank you!
